Collection and identification of benthic insects

Dave worked as a regulatory biologist for 27+ years for the NC Division of Water Resources and during this time ‘worked’ in most major stream and river systems in North Carolina.  He became familiar with natural faunas from reference sites statewide and how the various forms of water pollution affected these faunas.

As a faculty researcher at NCSU he focused primarily on the restoration of streams and the use of biological indicators of success.  He has also been fortunate in his career to travel to exotic places to collect insects as well; places like Costa Rica and Alaska for example.

His work now is as a private consultant and has his laboratory in Asheville, NC.  See the ‘projects’ section of this website for more information about specific projects he has worked on recently.
